Cyprus Maintains Strong Rule of Law Standing in 2025 World Justice Project Index

  • 30 Oct 2025

Economou & Co LLC is proud to have once again contributed to the World Justice Project’s (WJP) 2025 Rule of Law Index, the leading global source of independent data on adherence to the rule of law across 143 jurisdictions.

The 2025 results, released on 28/10/2025 and are available here, highlight Cyprus’s continued strength in key areas of judicial integrity and institutional accountability.

At a time when the WJP reports that 68% of countries experienced a decline in rule of law performance, Cyprus not only maintained its stability but achieved a positive overall score change of +0.3%, ranking 30th globally and 22nd within the EU, EFTA, and North America region.

The 2025 results reaffirm the strength and integrity of Cyprus’s judiciary, which continues to anchor public confidence in the rule of law:

  • Freedom from improper government influence in the civil justice system (0.75) and the criminal justice system (0.76) underscores the independence and impartiality of Cyprus’s courts.
  • Due process of law (0.71) continues to perform strongly, reflecting fair procedures and respect for the rights of all parties.
  • Absence of corruption in the judiciary (0.84) remains one of Cyprus’s strongest indicators.
  • Judicial oversight of government powers (0.60) reflects stable institutional checks and an effective system of separation of powers.
  • Impartial and effective alternative dispute resolution mechanisms (0.72) highlight continuing confidence in judicial processes beyond the formal courts.

Cyprus’s steady performance demonstrates the enduring professionalism and accountability of its judicial system in a period of global decline in the rule of law.

Economou & Co LLC is proud to support this international effort to advance transparency and strengthen the rule of law.
