New Guide: Arbitration in Cyprus - Tribunal Powers, Immunity & Final Awards

  • 16 Jun 2025

We are pleased to announce the release of the third instalment in our series of guides on arbitration in Cyprus, published by Economou & Co LLC.

“Arbitration in Cyprus – Part III: Tribunal Powers, Immunity & Final Awards” offers a practical overview of the composition and authority of arbitral tribunals, including key procedural and substantive aspects that arise during the arbitration process.

The guide also explores the evolving legal landscape of third-party funding and sets out the requirements for issuing a valid and enforceable award in Cyprus.

This edition is divided into five focused sections:

  • The constitution and appointment of the tribunal;
  • Grounds for challenging arbitrators, their duties, and immunity;
  • The scope of tribunal powers, including evidentiary control and interim measures;
  • Third-party funding and recent judicial developments;
  • Formal and substantive requirements for arbitral awards and the remedies available.

The guide draws on the latest legislative updates under the International Commercial Arbitration Law (ICAL), as well as relevant case law and procedural safeguards under Cap. 4 of the Cyprus arbitration framework.

As with Parts I and II of our series, the aim is to provide accessible, reliable insights for legal practitioners, in-house counsel and parties involved in cross-border arbitration with a Cypriot seat.
