Economou & Co LLC attends address by the President of the CJEU
Economou & Co LLC had the honour of attending the address delivered by Mr Koen Lenaerts, President of the Court of Justice of the European Union, entitled “The Rule of Law under Strain: Safeguarding Democratic Principles Against Evolving Threats.”
The event, hosted by the Supreme Constitutional Court and the Supreme Court of Cyprus, took place on 3 November 2025 in Nicosia and was attended by distinguished members of the judiciary, the legal profession, and the academic community.
In his remarks, President Lenaerts underlined the fundamental importance of the rule of law as a cornerstone of the European Union and its democratic institutions. He referred to the growing challenges posed by geopolitical instability, digital transformation, and threats to judicial independence, stressing the responsibility of courts and practitioners to ensure the continued protection of fundamental rights across all Member States. President Lenaerts’ visit to Cyprus also provided an opportunity for dialogue on the particular legal circumstances of the island.
